I am offering a safe space to talk, giving you informed compassionate emotional support/counselling, along with practical stress reduction tools to help you rest and heal.
This specialized help, delivered professionally, for people with ME/CFS is based on my experience, training and skills. I have BSc Human Biology from Kings College London and so have a natural interest and ability in understanding the medical side of the illness. In addition to this, I have an MSc and CQSW in Social Work from the London School of Economics, a Diploma in Counselling from Roehampton Institute and experience of working professionally in both fields of social work and counselling helping people get to grips with complex life challenges. ME/CFS is a debilitating, frightening and isolating illness. Perhaps my most helpful qualification is that I have lived with ME for 17 years. Initially I was mostly bed-bound for two years and virtually house bound for another four. The daily struggle of life with ME/CFS is a path that can feel directionless and overwhelming; being severely unwell, endless studying and looking for answers, trying every remedy going, being treated abysmally at times by doctors, making radical lifestyle adjustments and battling to hold onto hope. My own ME and other long-term health problems have taken me to what has felt like the end of my resources. It takes resilience and perseverance to find your way through, and as a result of my experience I now have a clearer sense of what would have benefitted me.
To break the cycle of stress and deteriorating health I am offering help and support in the following in two areas:
1. Counselling/emotional support/breaking the isolation. I am offering compassion and understanding. My background and experience means I can listen and help make some sense of the understandable emotional consequences of the loss of your health, including feelings of desperation, isolation and stigma, along with confidence, self-esteem and identity issues. Additionally you may wish to explore the role of previous life events and stresses on your health. Living with ME/CFS can cause a great deal of upheaval to your relationships and I can help you manage and make sense of these changes. I can also support you as you prepare and recover from challenging appointments with doctors and health professionals. Kind intelligent emotional support is too often in short supply and its impact is underestimated, daring to voice your fears and anxieties can be a life saver.
2. Learning to rest and relax effectively. The stress and emotional struggle of living with CFS/ME can compound and hinder the possibility of recovery. Before I became unwell I thought sitting down meant I was resting; the reality is that most of us need to learn how to activate the relaxation response in our bodies so that healing can occur from within. I can support you in learning relaxation tools like breathing exercises, mindfulness techniques and simple meditations. I have been practicing mindfulness both formally in meditation and informally for over 10 years. I have experienced firsthand its widespread benefits and can teach you how to begin and develop mindfulness in your everyday life and your own practice, discovering a more accepting and peaceful way of being.
I believe that even within the constraints of poor physical health, reasonable and even good mental health is possible.
One of the benefits of this service is that you can access support where you need it. It is not necessary for you to get out of bed and/or get dressed for these sessions and it may be you would like more frequent but short sessions initially in order not to over tire you. Please contact me if you have any questions at all. I look forward to hearing from you.

Lorna combines her own experience, research and empathetic approach to provide a truly holistic and helpful service. I've spoken to Lorna quite a few times now, and each time has been comforting.
I now feel much more positive, and it is really good to know there is someone to talk to who understands what I'm going through, and has found a positive route forward themselves.
I'm still learning from Lorna, and hope to continue to do so until I'm well again.
Value For Money
I've had a number of sessions with Lorna at this point. As others have commented she is highly empathic, intuitive, and a discerning listener. I still find it weird to be taking to a counselling professional who understands M.E. But in a very good way! Her understanding of the emotional territory life with M.E. brings with it, is just meeting such a deep need in me to be heard. Her skill in relation to mindfulness is taking the therapeutic effect of our conversations to a deep emotional healing level. Which has been a catalyst for renewed motivation and action on my part to address the physical aspects of my health issues. I've been ill for over 30 years. This has taken its toll on my morale.

Having had personal experience of illness means Lorna speaks from
experience as well as professionally. I really appreciated this. I
would thoroughly recommend her as someone who can empower and encourage.
Learning some breathing and mindfulness exercises have made a big
difference in managing my anxiety.
